Charlotte May and Chris Shotton made their Halstead Road Runner debuts in promising style at Saturday’s Great Notley 5k Park Run.
Both are products of the club’s popular Beginners Group, which is open to anyone wishing to try running.
Both ran well with Chris Shotton managing a new PB time over the 5k distance.

n Sunday’s foul weather did not deter the 13 Halstead Road Runners from completing the ever popular Colchester Half-Marathon. Starting and finishing at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, home of Colchester United, the 13.1-mile route takes in the town’s High Street, heading out to Langham before returning to the finish.
Aaron Heard and Jim Leaney both managed PBs. Jenn Langley, recovering from injury, ran her first half-marathon in preparation for her date in London next month. Meanwhile Dan Hollinshead, Jim Clark and Sam Wolton enjoyed a tussle throughout the race with less than a minute separating the three at the finish line.

n It was a family affair for the Hills on Sunday as the father/mother/daughter trio took on the Braintree Skyline 5. Chris Hill took family honours in being first home. Strong performances from Jon Buist and Andy Owens placed well in the field of over 300 runners.

n Winds of up to 50 mph, heavy rain, hailstones and deep sticky mud were the conditions facing the Halstead runners who took on Newmarket’s Daffodil Dawdle trail marathon and 18-mile walk on Sunday.
Rosie Atkins, Andy Wilmot and Dan Smith all took on the 26.7-mile marathon, while Carol and Wes Atkins tackled the 18-mile walk.
The poor weather made a tough course all the more tougher, with the majority of the course off road, run through woods and fields.

n To round off another successful weekend for the club, Bradley Doe took on the Lowestoft five-mile road race. Doe continues to impress with each run and Sunday was no exception, finishing ninth overall in 30:12.
