Sudbury Joggers and Halstead Road Runners battled through testing warm conditions to complete the Mersea Round The Island Race on Sunday.

The half-marathon course is a tough one, with a large amount being run on the beach and the hot weather merely adding to the challenge.

Sudbury pair Jim Comber and Jonathan Price completed the distance, with Comber stopping the clock at one hour 48 minutes and Price in one hour 57 minutes.

Halstead’s Mike Grealty finished in one hour 47 minutes.

The Road Runners’ Hazel Buist completed the Stortford 10-mile, largely off-road race, in one hour 30 minutes and 50 seconds, with former member Sil Clay finishing in one hour 27 minutes.

Meanwhile, Sudbury members also took part in the Friday Five series in Bury St Edmunds.

Results: Ben Cuthbert 31.15, Clive Davey 34.03, Sandy Thorogood 36.35, Dean Breward 37.20, Paul King 37.46, Sharon White 39.22, Dee St Ledger 40.27, Sarah Pennock 44.19, Sharon Breward 55.51.
