Colin Ballard is the new
Sudbury and District Snooker League singles champion
after he completed a 3-1 victory over Earls Colne B teammate Aiden Kench in last week’s final at Sudbury Snooker Club.

After being runner-up for the previous three seasons, Ballard was keen to make a good start and was helped by a 47-break, which saw him roar into a one-frame lead.

Kench, however, responded in fine style, knocking in a 53 break — the highest of the final — in frame two.

The third frame also saw some fine all-round play, but it was Ballard who edged in front with a 22 clearance.

The fourth frame was a cagey and somewhat scrappy affair, but it was eventually taken by Ballard for the frame and match.

Meanwhile, Mark Harris of Earls Colne A won the Captains’ Cup final, edging out Paul Garrard of Lavenham Legion A 2-1 in a close match.

Tonight sees the conclusion of the season with the Handicap Cup team final between Sible Hedingham and Lavenham Legion B at Sudbury Snooker Club with an 8.15pm start.

The same venue hosts the Handicap Singles final between Paul Garrard, of Lavenham Legion A, and Andy Shelton of Earls Colne B (also 8.15pm).

Teams are reminded that next Thursday is the league’s presentation/11up competition evening at Sudbury Snooker Club (7.45pm).
