Billy Bird believes people will now stand up and take notice of him as a professional boxer after his impressive points victory over Dee Mitchell.
The 21-year-old former Sudbury Boxing Club member secured his eighth successive win to continue his burgeoning professional career as he outmanoeuvred his 37-year-old opponent over four rounds at Norwich’s Mercy Premier Nightclub.
And having successfully navigated his way past his toughest opponent yet, ‘Billy Boy’ believes he has finally shown he should be taken seriously as a professional.
“I think people will now stand up and take notice of me,” he said. “I want to show everyone what I am about and I think I delivered.
“I felt unbelievably good and it was the best I have ever boxed against what was a very strong and experienced opponent.
“He said afterwards that he really rates me as a fighter and can see me going places, which was great to hear because I really respect him.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more on the night and I was over the moon, it was the best night of my life.”
The dazzling performance came following a new training regime under Mike Jones, with Bird taking the opportunity to pay tribute the nutritionist.
“I looked like a totally different fighter and that is down to Mike, he has transformed me,” he added. “He made me look a million dollars on the night, and that is down to all the hard work and preparation, everything went according to plan.
“It is great to be able to repay the faith of those shown in me, and hopefully I can continue to do that.”
