Roller hockey ace Alex Jones has returned from his debut Under-20 World Championships having helped England to 11th place.

The 16-year-old former Ormiston Sudbury Academy pupil scored twice across seven games in Colombia in his first taste of the under-20 team — and he can’t wait for more.

“I thought I did okay, I had to step up my game and hopefully I will make the team for the Europeans, which are about this time next year,” he said.

The Chilton-based player said a tough group draw, featuring defending champions Spain and the host nation, hampered them in achieving their top-eight ambition, losing to a strong Brazil team in a plate play-off with four wins and three defeats overall.

Jones was one of four Bury Roller Hockey Club players in the England side.
