Newton Green’s Ellie Aldous shot an impressive three-over-par 77 to win the Suffolk Girls’ Junior Golf Championship.

Although there was not a big field competing in the event at Woodbridge, the 15-year-old five-handicapper, who recently regained the adult championship title at her home club, would have been difficult to beat had any of the missing potential championship runners been present.

This was illustrated by the fact Newton’s other fancied 15-year-old, Alice Barlow, took second place in the competition, some 10 shots back.

Aldous scored a moderate 41 in the opening nine, but came back in a one-under-par 36 shots, including eight pars and a birdie, for the under-18s title. It saw her take the Moss Blundell Trophy, and she now qualifies for the Daily Telegraph Junior Open next year.
