AFC Sudbury enjoyed a winning start to their FA Trophy journey after easing through preliminary qualifying round with a 2-0 success over Worthing FC.

Ben Thompson followed up an own goal opener to see David Batch’s side safely progress through to the next round.

Elsewhere, Hadleigh United remain perched at the top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table following a thrilling 3-2 win over Ely City. Goals from Scott Chaplin, Josh Mayhew and Kris Rose securing all three points.

In the First Division, Long Melford slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Ipswich Wanderers while Cornard United secured a 2-1 win away at Needham Market Reserves.

Meanwhile, in the rugby, Sudbury’s perfect start to the new London Three North campaign continued on Saturday with an emphatic 41-13 success over Old Brentwoods to keep them firmly on top of the table.
