AFC Sudbury’s hopes of gaining a Ryman League Division One North play-off place were dented on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by promotion rivals Harlow Town.
Jack Wilkinson struck home a leveller after 51 minutes but the Yellows could not find a winner as they claimed a second successive league draw leaving them seven points adrift of Saturday’s opponents in the final play-off place.
In the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, league leaders Hadleigh United slipped to only their third defeat of the season, as they went down to a surprising 4-2 loss to Godmanchester Rovers.
Duane Wright and Oliver Canfer twice levelled for the hosts after James Hall and Niks Savinks had struck but further goals from Jamie Blackwell and Savinks after the interval finally settled the tie.
In the First Division, Cornard United were on the wrong end of a seven goal thriller at AFC Sudbury Reserves, who clinched a 6-1 victory, while Long Melford cruised to a 3-1 win away at Braintree Town Reserves.
There was also delight for Halstead Town who romped to a comfortable 3-0 success away at Debenham LC.
Elsewhere, Ipswich Town find themselves six points adrift of the Sky Bet Championship places following a 3-1 defeat to in form Wigan Athletic.
Tommy Smith had given the hosts the lead after 19 minutes but first half replies from James McClean and Leon Barnett, followed by a second for McClean after the break sealed the points for the visitors.
