AFC Sudbury’s 14-match unbeaten run came to an end at Dereham Town on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1, but despite the defeat they remain in third place in the Ryman league Division One North.
Luke Callander had given Sudbury the lead early in the second half, but Dereham replied with three goals in 15 minutes to stay in the promotion play-off race.
In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, Hadleigh United were stunned by a first-minute goal from Walsham-le-Willows keeper Lee Pacey, his free-kick from the halfway line bouncing over the stranded Ben Nower. The game at Walsham ended 3-3.
In the First Division, Long Melford kept up the pressure on leaders Swaffham Town with a 7-0 victory at AFC Sudbury Reserves. Halstead Town had a 1-0 home victory over Leiston Reserves, and Cornard United conceded two late goals at home to Dereham Town Reserves to draw 2-2.
In rugby, Sudbury’s unbeaten London League 2NE unbeaten run was ended in emphatic style at Lowestoft and Yarmouth, the champions going down 57-24 but scoring four tries to pick up a losing bonus point.
