Kris Newby maintained his goalscoring form by netting in the first minute, but AFC Sudbury crashed to a 6-2 defeat at home to Thurrock.

They were 4-1 down by the time Correy Davidson scored for AFC again in the 65th minute, but that merely preceded two more goals from Thurrock.

Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division champions Hadleigh United remained top of the table although their match at Felixstowe and Walton United was postponed on Friday night when fog descended on the pitch just 10 minutes before kick-off.

In the First Division, AFC Sudbury Reserves won 3-1 at Dereham Town Reserves, but Long Melford missed the chance to go top with a 4-1 loss at home to Swaffham Town.

Cornard United were beaten 1-0 by March Town United.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Norwich City missed the chance to go top after drawing 2-2 with Birmingham City, while Ipswich Town travel to Wigan Athletic on Monday night knowing victory would take them up to seventh.

In rugby, Sudbury won their London Three North East Suffolk derby at home to Stowmarket in convincing fashion to maintain their winning start to the season.
