JIMMY Holder’s Halstead Town and Stuart Crawford’s Hadleigh United will face Ryman League clubs in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup after overcoming FC Clacton and Ipswich Wanderers.
Halstead won 3-1 at higher league opposition Clacton to set up a lucrative home tie against Brentwood Town, while Hadleigh’s 3-0 win at lower-league Ipswich Wanderers will see them travel to Harlow Town in the next round.
Both ties are scheduled to play their first qualifying rounds on Saturday, August 25 (3pm).
There was an disappointment for Long Melford though, who exited the competition with a 3-1 defeat at London APSA.
With Cornard United having not qualified for the competition, they played their first Thurlow Nunn First Division game of the campaign, losing 5-2 at home to Cambridge University Press.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town get their season under way on Tuesday at Portman Road with a Capital One Cup tie with Bristol Rovers (7.45pm).
