Just one senior football match beat the weather on Saturday, with Cornard United hosting Halstead Town in a derby seen by 237 at Blackhouse Lane.
Cornard United’s hard work in getting their Blackhouse Lane pitch fit for their Thurlow Nunn League first division local derby with Halstead Town was rewarded with a crowd of more than five times their average.
It could not help halt their run of defeats though, as Halstead won 2-0 on the day and are fourth in the table.
AFC Sudbury’s home game against Witham Town in the Ryman League Division One North was called off on Saturday morning after a pitch inspection, as was Thurlow Nunn Premier Division leaders Hadleigh’s trip to Kirkley and Pakefield.
Sudbury rugby club’s visit to Cantabrigians in London League 3NE was also called off because of an unfit pitch.
Norwich City held Manchester City to a goalless draw at Carrow Road in the Premier League, while Ipswich Town scored two late goals in the Championship to draw 2-2 at Barnsley.
