James Baker’s 21st goal of the season maintained AFC Sudbury’s charge for the Ryman League Division One North play-offs as the Yellows edged out Tilbury 1-0.

Eighth-placed Sudbury — unbeaten in the league since October — are back in action at home to Wroxham tonight (Monday, 7.45pm) when they go in search of their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, Hadleigh United edged out struggling Thetford Town 2-1 thanks to an own goal and a strike from Duane Wright to remain well clear at the summit.

Halstead Town overcame AFC Sudbury Reserves in the First Division, Long Melford drew 1-1 with Team Bury and Conard United were beaten 3-2 at home by Stowmarket Town.

Norwich City eased their relegation fears in the Barclays Premier League after a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur thanks to Robert Snodgrass’ 47th-minute strike on Sunday, while Ipswich Town’s chances of reaching the Sky Bet Championship play-offs took a further hit when they were beaten 3-0 at runaway leaders Leicester City.

In rugby’s London Three North East, Sudbury’s promotion hopes were dealt a potentially fatal blow with a 30-5 defeat at second-placed Cantabrigian.
