AFC Sudbury moved back up to third place in the Ryman League Division One North with a 4-1 win at Waltham Abbey on Saturday, and need just one point from their two remaining games to secure a promotion play-off place.

Luke Callander, Scott Mitchell, Kris Newby and Ben Robinson were on target for AFC, who are now two points ahead of Brentwood Town who have a game in hand.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, Hadleigh United slumped to their third successive defeat, going down 4-0 at home to Ipswich Wanderers.

In the First Division leaders Long Melford made it seven wins from their last seven games, beating Haverhill Borough 1-0 at Stoneylands, Jamie Clark getting the vital goal. The Villagers are now three points clear of Swaffham Town, and have a better goal difference. Swaffham visit Cornard United on Tuesday.

The other First Division games saw defeats for AFC Sudbury Reserves, 2-0 at Saffron Walden, and Halstead Town, 5-1 at Downham Town.

In rugby champions Sudbury ended their London League Division Three North East campain with a 28-22 victory over West Norfolk, their 20th win of a 22-match season. The victory took them to 100 points for the season. Holders Sudbury will be seeking to complete a league and cup double when they defend the Suffolk Cup at Stowmarket on Saturday.
