Skipper Sam Clarke was on target with a second half-strike as AFC Sudbury won 1-0 at Chatham Town on Saturday, their fourth away Ryman League North win on the trot to leave them 10th in the table.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division leaders Hadleigh United thrashed bottom club Diss Town 8-0 at The Millfield, Duane Wright grabbing five goals.

In the First Division, AFC Sudbury Reserves lost 2-1 at home to Great Yarmouth, Halstead Town lost 3-1 at home to Woodbridge Town, and Long Melford went down 2-1 at Downham Town. Cornard United’s 3-0 home defeat by Haverhill Borough leaves the Ards still looking for their first league win of the season.

Ipswich Town made it four straight wins and occupy fifth place after Wolverhampton Wanderers leapfrogged them on Sunday, after the Tractorboys recorded a 2-0 home victory over Rotherham United.

Early goals from front pair Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick proved enough to seal all three points for Mick McCarthy’s side.

In rugby, Sudbury ran riot at struggling Clacton, running in 11 tries and winning 69-7. The hosts had a player dismissed after 25 minutes. Sudbury are second in London League 3NE.
