A goal in each half from Ollie Snaith helped Needham Market to a 2-0 win against Bury Town in the Alan Turvey Trophy second round at Ram Meadow last night.

In what was the first competitive meeting between these two Suffolk rivals for almost five years, the Marketmen progressed into the third round thanks to a brace from recent signing Snaith.

The higher league visitors broke the deadlock on 25 minutes, with Snaith slotting home after seeing his initial shot kept out by Bury goalkeeper Neil O’Sullivan.

Needham doubled their lead eight minutes after the restart when an unmarked Snaith converted a corner from Callum Harrison, with the win stretching the Marketmen’s unbeaten run to 10 games in all competitions.

Mark Morsley’s men will visit another Ryman League Division One North side in the next round when they travel to Ware (Date TBC).

Elsewhere, Halstead Town bowed out of this season’s Essex Senior Cup after a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to higher league Heybridge Swifts last night.

In the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, AFC Sudbury Reserves and Cornard United shared the points after drawing 2-2 at The Wardale Williams Stadium.

Goals from Ezra Drann and Jake Buckland put the Ards 2-1 up after Sam Mills had opened the scoring early on for AFC, before Mills grabbed an equaliser midway through the second half.
