Shaun Smith, of the Melford Valley Vikings, and Stoke-by-Clare’s Lee Bareham both picked up unfortunate injuries while playing in the Treadfirst Sudbury and District Sunday Football League last year.

An exhibition match between Melford Valley Vikings and Division One Winter League Champions, Silkworm, has been set up to take place at the Wardale Williams Stadium tomorrow night (7.30pm).

A small admission will be charged on the gate, with a raffle also being held.

Vikings manager Dan McNamee helped organise the match and is hoping it will be a successful fundraiser to aid the rehabilitation of the two injured players.

“Shaun has had to have his knee rebuilt and when the injury happened had just signed the deed to a new flat,” he explained.

“Lee has been told he’ll never be able to play football again after his injury and, because of how bad it was, he’s ended up losing his job.

“We’re putting on an exhibition match between two teams with a huge rivalry and hopefully we can raise a good amount of money for them.”
