AFC Sudbury continued their preparations for the new Ryman League Division One North campaign in the perfect fashion with a comprehensive 5-1 humbling of higher league Lowestoft Town on Saturday.

A first-half hat-trick from Luke Callander was added to by Jordan Blackwell and Wayne Blackman in a rampant opening 45 minutes for Sudbury which saw former Yellow’s goalkeeper Marcus Garnham substituted by Town at the break.

Lowestoft grabbed a late consolation but it could not take the shine of a fine victory for AFC over their Vanarama National League North opposition ahead of the new campaign.

In the cricket, Sudbury (270-9) strengthened their position at the top of Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One with a one wicket success away at rivals Halstead (266-7). The victory keeps them 12 points ahead of nearest rivals Witham.

Elsewhere, Long Melford (113-9) suffered a disappointing six wicket defeat to Haverhill (116-4) in Division Two.
