Soham Town Rangers twice hit AFC Sudbury on the break as they ran out 2-1 winners at the MEL Group Stadium on Tuesday.
After Luke Stanley had put the Cambridgeshire side ahead, AFC’s Matt Daniels saw his penalty kick on the stroke of half-time brilliantly saved in a poor half for the hosts.
Sudbury were stronger in the second half and equalised through Jamie Forshaw’s powerful rising shot from the edge of the area.
But Ben Sawyer broke through to restore Soham’s lead which was only prevented from being extended by a series of fine saves from Alex Archer.
Michael Shinn hit the post from a free-kick and Jemel Fox had a header cleared off the line as AFC went desperately close to an equaliser late on.
In the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division Hadleigh United drew 1-1 at Haverhill Rovers while in the First Division Cornard United came away from Whitton United with an excellent point after a 2-2 draw.
Long Melford host Halstead Town at their Stoneylands ground tonight (7.45pm).
