Ipswich Wanderers had an early chance in their 2-1 victory at Long Melford in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division on Saturday, but keeper Liam Hastie made an excellent save from Tredway’s spot-kick.

Hastie then saved well from Garrett, and Jennings fired well wide. Melford had a chance from a free kick but Richie Abbott floated the ball well beyond colleagues.

Melford took an early second half lead. Nathan Rowe put Abbott through, and although his effort was saved by Bradbrook the ball fell into the path of Abbott who made no mistake.

Melford were denied a free kick the visiting keeper clearly handled two yards outside the box, not spotted by the officials.

Melford soaked up a lot of pressure, but eventually conceded an equaliser when Francis scored at the far post. Melford looked to have earned a deserved draw, only for Albins to head home at the far post.

Man of the Match: Liam Hastie, a safe pair of hands.

nThree days earlier Melford were beaten 3-1 at home by Stowmarket Town in the first round of the Division One Cup.
