SUFFOLK PREMIER CUP
Lowestoft Town 2
Hadleigh United 0
Hadleigh gave a good performance at Lowestoft on Tuesday, against a team who play three levels higher.
A place in the next round of the Suffolk Premier Cup was at stake and the Trawlerboys fielded a full-strength team.
Shaun Bammant opened the scoring after 14 minutes, but Danny Thrower went close at the other end from a free kick before the interval.
Hadleigh attacked strongly in the second half with George Mrozec, Scott Chaplin and Joe Chester going close to equalising.
But, a 90th-minute goal by Danny Crowe completed a 2-0 win for Lowestoft Town.
n Last Wednesday, Division One leaders, Wivenhoe Town, put Hadleigh out of the League Cup courtesy of a fluke goal 10 minutes before the end at Broad Lane.
Hadleigh’s goal came from Marley Spindler in their 2-1 defeat.
n Hadleigh included 17-year-old Milo Downey, a midfielder on loan from Colchester United, whose father, Steve Downey, is coach at Hadleigh as well as at Colchester Youth.
n In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division on Saturday, five goals in a remarkable second-half display ended Hadleigh’s four-game losing run against Swaffham Town in a deserved 5-1 victory.
Swaffham went ahead after 17 minutes when Joe Jackson beat the advancing Ben Nower and the Norfolk side had the better of the first half for a 1-0 lead at the interval.
However, Hadleigh were kicking down the slope in the second half and David Lormer scored with a brave header after 51 minutes, the Hadleigh striker needing treatment after colliding with the keeper.
On the hour, Lorimer was tripped in the area and Danny Thrower netted the spot kick.
Scott Chaplin fired home after 67 minutes to put the Brettsiders 3-1 ahead. Thrower made it four after 76 minutes and completed his hat-trick from a narrow angle on the right in the 84th.
