THURLOW NUNN FIRST DIVISION Halstead Town 0 Stowmarket Town 2
Halstead missed out on the opportunity to move up a place into the top eight, after falling short by a 2-0 home loss to Stowmarket.
The visitors started the stronger, breaking through the home rearguard twice within the opening minute, with shots from Josh Cheetham and Ben Licence foiled, before another attempt was headed off the line.
At the other end, Dave Morgan headed straight at the goalkeeper when the away side looked in trouble defensively, before Stowmarket’s Licence curled an effort just over.
Halstead almost took the lead before the interval when Morgan’s free-kick stung the goalkeeper’s fingertips and the follow-up effort was scrambled away.
After the break, the match increased in tempo, with both sides guilty of wasting chances.
A Stowmarket free-kick bounced up and hit goalkeeper Matt Walker in the face before the ball was hastily cleared.
The visitors attacked relentlessly with Wayne Proctor seeing the whole goal open up before firing straight at Walker.
The best action was saved for the dying minutes, however, where Halstead could have snatched the three points.
Jonah Gosling’s dazzling run saw him square to Brad Keefe, who fired over when he should have hit the target.
Again Gosling ran down the wing and cut the ball back, where a mishit clearance hit the bar.
It was late drama again at Rosemary Lane, but not the for the home side this time.
Tom Bradlaugh’s effort from outside the area flew into the bottom corner, to put the visitors in the lead with 85 minutes gone.
Halstead committed men forward in search of a late equaliser and shot themselves in the foot — a Stowmarket counter-attack was not cleared and Aaron Thurlow was there to round off the game for the away side’s second.
