Ladies knocked out of Suffolk Cup

SUFFOLK WOMEN’S CUP

QUARTER-FINAL

AFC Sudbury 1 Ipswich Town 5

Sudbury gave a good account of themselves in the first half of this cup match against current holders Ipswich Town.

Unfazed by the elite opposition, who play several leagues higher, AFC made a sprightly start to the game and had the opening chance when Jodie Sharp was sent clear of the defence, only to shoot into the arms of the keeper.

Ipswich took the lead from a rebound and doubled their advantage when an excellent acrobatic save from Helena Brodie unfortunately deflected off AFC’s Becky Thrower into her own net.

On the stroke of half-time, AFC deservedly pulled a goal back with a moment of individual brilliance from Kayleigh Steed, who fired the ball in from 30 yards out.

However, three Ipswich goals after the interval settled the tie.
