Ipswich Town fan NICK KEEBLE fills in for column regular Russell Claydon in this week’s column

SOME THINGS MONEY CAN’T BUY. FOOTBALL ISN’T ONE: THE AMEX.

So much of the post-match debate after the Brighton game was about this banner held up by Town fans, possibly the most bizarre banner football has ever seen.

Apart from the fact it was confusing, the slogan is for Mastercard not American Express – why pick on Brighton?

It brought to mind something I used to be told as a child when I had done something stupid – ‘It isn’t funny and it isn’t clever’.

Just think about the process and the work that was involved in thinking it up, making it, getting it to Brighton, into the ground, unravelling it and then holding it.

Barmy or what?

I’m minded to make a banner to take in today (Saturday, March 3) that says: SOME BANNERS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS. THIS ISN’T ONE OF THEM!

On the field, it seems as though 3-0 flattered Brighton a bit and that the goals were as the result of some dodgy defending and goalkeeping.

Haven’t we heard that somewhere before?

Has our search for a centre back and a goalkeeper stopped?

Is there no-one out there available who is better than what we already have?

March is a tough old month football wise and Jewell is bound to need to make a few changes with eight games in a month but does he have the personnel available at the back?

We shall see.

Bristol City make their journey from the West to the East today (Saturday, March 3).

Way back when on the first day of the season, Town tonked them 3-0 when we all thought it was the beginning of something big, but we were wrong about that.

Since then they went on a mini revival (unbeaten in November), have sold top scorer Nicky Maynard and are presently on a winless streak of six in a row.

They have done the double over high-scoring table-toppers Southampton, (who we play next Tuesday, March 6) so are capable of producing surprises.
