THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE
Debenham LC 1
Halstead Town 3
Halstead Town recorded their third win in a row as they completed the double over Debenham LC to bolster their ambitions of promotion this season.
After dominating the early exchanges, the Humbugs found a deserved breakthrough when a slide rule pass put Sam Cripps through, and he made no mistake in front of goal.
The second-half continued in the same vein as the first, as within minutes of the restart Joseph O’Hare had a goal ruled out for the visitors.
After seeing their goalkeeper, James Waters, brought into action for the first time on the hour mark, Halstead doubled their lead when Cripps got the wrong side of the Debenham defence again and applied a deft finish.
Jordan Pavett came off the bench for the Humbugs and marked his return from injury by tucking away the rebound from Cook’s saved shot.
Debenham pulled a goal back through Jake Gathercole in the final minutes, but it was Halstead who maintained their recent winning run and made it three wins in a row.
The Humbugs (fifth) remain two places and eight points adrift of third-place Ely City, who currently occupy the last promotion place in the table.
Mark Benterman’s side begin a busy March by taking on strugglers, Team Bury, on Saturday (3pm), before visiting Stowmarket Town in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division Knockout Cup semi-finals on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Halstead have a total of seven games in March, with First Division clashes against Diss Town, Wivenhoe Town, Dereham Town Reserves and Cornard United to follow later this month.
