Halstead Town look to get back to winning ways

Halstead Town host Saffron Walden Town at Rosemary Lane on Saturday (3pm) looking for their first win in three Thurlow Nunn League First Division matches.

Jimmy Holder’s side were without a game last week, but will be hoping the rest has done them good with a second home game in three days following in the Red Insure Thurlow Nunn League Cup first round against Haverhill Rovers (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Cornard United will make it 10 straight league defeats to open their 2012/13 campaign if they lose at Debenham LC on Saturday (3pm).

In the Essex Premier Cup on Saturday, Halstead Town Reserves went out to a dogged Ryan Reserves 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 3-3 draw.

After going 2-0 down to a side who hadn’t won previously this season, Jon Thorogood clawed one back before the break and Stepney Thurgood equalised after 60 minutes.

Both sides scored one apiece in extra-time, Thurgood’s poacher’s effort being equalised to bring on the eventual penalty heartbreak.

At 4-4 the unfortunate Brad Dix slammed his penalty against the post for Town and Gregorie stepped up to win the day for Ryan.
