Hadleigh win to end season in seventh spot

Hadleigh completed their season with a narrow win against a Swaffham side requiring a win to stand a chance of getting out of the bottom three. A win for Hadleigh could gain a seventh-place finish.

Swaffham scored after 10 minutes when Joe Jackson netted with a low cross-shot. The home side were kept at bay until the 39th minutes when Danny Thrower’s cross was headed home by David Lorimer to equalise.

Three minutes later, another Thrower cross, again from the right, was headed into the net by a diving Aaron Churchyard to give Hadleigh an interval lead.

On the hour, Jackson netted from close range to equalise for the Norfolk side against the run of play.

The vital goal eventually came when Anton Clarke sent over a deep corner from the right and Kris Rose headed powerfully into the net in the 83rd minute.

The remaining time saw Hadleigh comfortably maintain the lead.

n Last Wednesday, Hadleigh lost 3-1 at Ipswich Wanderers in a lacklustre performance. The home side needed three points to guarantee avoiding relegation.

Danny Thrower converted a spot kick in stoppage time for Hadleigh’s only success.

Long Melford 0

Mildenhall Town 2

Against a depleted Melford team the visitors gained revenge for the earlier season defeat at Mildenhall with a first-half brace from Chris Bacon.

Melford, who finished their first campaign in the Premier Division in 9th place, improved in the second half, but could not find a breakthrough.
