Hadleigh United 2

FC Clacton 1

Bottom-of-the-league FC Clacton made Hadleigh pull out all the stops to gain three points at a muddy Millfield on Saturday, Lee McGlone getting two goals.

Efforts from Ollie Canfer and a header from Paul Donnelly were off target for Hadleigh before Scott Chaplin’s corner from the right was headed home by McGlone after 25 minutes.

Clacton had a good spell with keeper Darren Moyes making four smart saves while at the other end McGlone’s shot was smothered by keeper Keith Tucker before the interval.

Moyes saved from Jake Clowsley and Donnelly headed too high in the second half.

A well-taken effort by Rob Thorne levelled the score after 63 minutes as Clacton had Hadleigh on the back foot for a lengthy spell.

But the points were gained after 86 minutes as Chaplin delivered a free-kick from the left flank and McGlone scrambled the ball into the net to bring relief to manager Stuart Crawford, along with the club’s supporters.

n On Boxing Day, Hadleigh drew 2-2 at Haverhill with goals from Marcus Josiah and Shane Wardley.
