FA CUP

FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND

Aveley 6 Hadleigh United 1

HADLEIGH United’s FA Cup hopes were shattered as Aveley scored six of the best after the Brettsiders had twice gone close to going ahead in the opening 10 minutes.

Aveley scored after 17 minutes as a Kris Rose tackle in the area was penalised following a sliced attempted clearance by Mark Goldfinch and Shane Oakley scored from the spot.

A close-range header by Billy Holland made it 2-0 after 43 minutes before three more followed in a six-minute spell.

Holland scored two more for his hat-trick while Oakley also volleyed a fine goal.

Hadleigh’s regular keeper Dan Heath missed the match through illness and young debut-making Charlie de Lara Bell stood no chance as Aveley put Hadleigh’s defence to the sword.

An unstoppable volley by Jack Stephenson made it six after 73 minutes, but the travelling faithful had something to cheer in the last minute as Scott Chaplin was tripped in the area and Neil Calver netted the spot-kick.

n Hadleigh Reserves beat Newmarket Reserves 3-1 at the Millfield.

Tom Driscoll scored twice after Toby Rose had opened the scoring.
