AFC Sudbury boss Jamie Godbold has revealed that the club are in discussions to re-sign Danny Cunningham, writes Liam Apicella.

A number of players have committed themselves to the Yellows ahead of their upcoming campaign in the Ryman League Premier Division.

However, absent from the list of those that have been retained is Cunningham, who signed on at the Wardale Williams Stadium in March.

But, Godbold is hopeful that the former Lowestoft Town, Bury Town, Needham Market and Leiston man will eventually decide to wear the Sudbury shirt again next season.

“We are still in negotiations with Danny,” said the manager.

“As is the case with a lot of players at this time of year, they get all sorts of offers from clubs.

“We were pleased with his contribution last season, both on and off the pitch.

“We are looking to agree a deal because we are keen to keep hold of Danny.”

In contrast, Godbold has confirmed that Joe Maybanks will not be returning to the club.

The Braintree Town wide player spent much of last term on loan with Sudbury, but the summer arrivals of Rob Eagle and Sam Bantick means that Godbold has sufficient options in attack.
