G&C lift cup at Portman Road

GLEMSFORD & Cavendish are celebrating success in the Suffolk FA Junior Cup after a 3-1 victory at the home of Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.

The combined village side overcame Leiston St Margarets, who play in a league several divisions above them, in front of 600 fans at the Championship side’s ground.

An excellent first-half strike from Andrew Gardiner was levelled via the penalty spot, before a screamer from Gavin Brightwell and a precise finish from Daniel Brind sealed the historic cup victory in the second half.

The players and manager Rob Benson picked up the cup to wild celebrations, diving across the Portman Road pitch in front of their travelling fans.
