David Batch’s AFC Sudbury have had a tantalising carrot dangled in front of them ahead of Tuesday’s FA Trophy replay with St Neot’s Town — the little matter of a glamour tie at near-neighbours Braintree Town.

Should the Yellows overcome the Cambridgeshire higher-league outfit at the Wardale Williams Stadium Tuesday (7.45pm), they would face a trip down the A131 to Braintree in the first round proper on December 13 (3pm).

It would see James Baker return to his former club at Cressing Road, who are currently 18th in the Vanarama Conference Premier, three places above the three relegation places.
