A MAGNIFICENT performance saw Hadleigh United come from behind to beat Ryman League Division One North outfit Harlow Town on Saturday to qualify for a trip to Aveley on September 8.

A one-handed save by Hadleigh keeper Dan Heath saw the ball fall kindly for Tony Jacobs to put the Essex side ahead after nine minutes.

But Hadleigh levelled in the 20th minute as Scott Chaplin’s free-kick from the left was headed into the goalmouth by Kris Rose where Mark Goldfinch headed home from close range.

On the strike of half-time a shot from Chaplin was deflected behind.

The following corner was not properly cleared and Lee McGlone gained possession to fire powerfully just inside the post from long range.

Harlow pushed forward for much of the second half and Heath was kept busy. He was saved by the crossbar after 47 minutes before making a brilliant save at full stretch 10 minutes later.

The home side played the final 15 minutes with 10 men as an injury followed after all substitutes had been used.

n Hadleigh Reserves beat Long Melford Reserves 2-0 at the Millfield. Tom Driscoll scored one of the goals while the other one was an own goal.
