PREMIER DIVISION

Hadleigh United 0

Stanway Rovers 2

Hadleigh made things difficult for themselves at Millfield on Saturday, conceding a goal in the second minute whenJamie Shaw was allowed a free header.

Hadleigh eventually settled but lacked a cutting edge, although visiting keeper Dan Heath twice did well to keep out free kicks. At the other end, Ben Newson blazed wide.

At the interval there was still everything to play for although Hadleigh would be kicking against the wind in the second half.

Early on Heath saved bravely at David Lorimer’s feet. But Hadleigh lived dangerously, with keeper Ben Nower making a point-blank save before Ryan Stafford made a timely clearance off the line.

At the other end, Marley Spindler fired just too high as the Brettsiders hit back, while Heath foiled Scott Chaplin with an interception in the 80th minute.

However, Hadleigh’s defence was caught out five minutes before the end when Shaw was given time and space to make sure of the points with his second goal.
