LONG Melford’s Jack Durey has become an unlikely YouTube sensation thanks in part to Arsenal and England winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
‘The Ox’ retweeted a link to Durey’s wonder goal, which helped the Villagers to a 3-2 win against Bowers & Pitsea in the FA Vase, to almost 700,000 Twitter followers.
With his side leading 1-0, Durey found himself in acres of space 35 yards from goal, where he unleashed a rocket of a shot that flew into the top corner via the upright.
The winger’s moment of magic, which was caught on camera by non-league football follower Dan Wilson, has now racked up more than 6,000 views since being uploaded on Saturday.
“The reaction to the goal has been crazy,” Durey said.
“I thought it would just be me and my friends watching it but it’s gone national since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain retweeted it.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet and I can’t explain how it feels to be honest.”
The 22-year-old says he won’t be afraid to try his luck again should the chance arise in next weekend’s visit to Woodbridge Town.
“I’ve got to, haven’t I?” Durey quipped.
