Double strike sends Sudbury through in FA Cup

AFC Sudbury booked their place in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday with a 2-0 win on the road at Surrey opponents Merstham.

Second half goals from centre back Nathan Clarke and David Lorimer, in injury time, sealed their passage in the famous competition.

In the Ridgeons League, Wisbech Town beat Hadleigh United, who had won 7-3 at Ipswich Wanderers in the league cup on Wednesday night, 4-1 while Cornard United were thrashed 7-1 at home to Godmanchester Rovers, Downham Town beat Long Melford 3-2 and Halstead Town were 3-0 victors at Swaffham Town.

In the rugby Sudbury’s 100 per cent start in London 3NE came to an end at Norwich, who beat them 45-14.
