Cornard United have been boosted by the signing of Halstead Town midfielder Tom Barry ahead of the new season.

United have also confirmed that captain Dave Dowding is staying with the Ards, who started their pre-season friendlies with a 5-2 win at Earls Colne on Saturday.

United host Boxford Rovers at Blackhouse Lane for their next pre-season outing tonight (7.45pm).

Halstead Town followed up their impressive 1-1 draw against Witham Town with a 6-0 defeat to Maldon and Tiptree on Saturday.

The Humbugs continue their pre-season friendlies with the visit of Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday (3pm).

Halstead will start the 2014/15season at home to Downham Town after the Thurlow Nunn League First Division fixtures were released on Monday.

The Humbugs play at Rosemary Lane on the opening day on August 9 before visiting neighbours Cornard United on August 12.

Cornard travel to new boys Kings Lynn Town Reserves to kick-off their league campaign, while Long Melford host Great Yarmouth Town.

The Villagers entertain Cornard on August 20, with the reverse fixture at Blackhouse Lane scheduled for February 14th.
