Change at the top for Long Melford

Jules Mumford has stepped up to the role of first-team manager after Robbie Benson left the club on Tuesday night due to family commitments.

Former Glemsford and Cavendish United boss Benson took over at Stoneylands in the summer, guiding the club to seven victories during his time in charge and bringing through several promising youngsters in the process.

Mumford, who was also assistant to Jason Maher in the 2010/11 season, will take charge of his first game when the Villagers travel to March Town United on Saturday (3pm).

A statement on Melford’s website said: “Robbie was appointed manager in July during a difficult time for the club and although it has been a tough season Melford never lost more than three matches in a row under Robbie’s stewardship.”

Melford slipped to a 5-0 loss at in-form Fakenham Town on Saturday to leave them third from bottom of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division.
