Halstead Town manager Mark Benterman says new signing Matt Staines will excite the fans at the Milbank Stadium this season.
The winger, who joined from Haverhill Borough last Friday, impressed in his debut for the Humbugs in the 2-1 defeat at Stowmarket Town on Saturday.
After missing the 1-0 reverse to Heybridge Swifts in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday, Staines is in line to make his home debut for Halstead against Whitton United on Saturday (3pm).
“We’ve been after Stainesy for a year now,” Benterman said. “We spoke to him in the summer, he loved it at Haverhill and he had no intentions of leaving.
“Then he text me out of the blue saying is there still an offer on the table.
“You can see today what he offers you. He is a dangerous player. He looked a menace to the (Stowmarket) backline. He gets people off their seats.”
Halstead currently sit in eighth place in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, but do have games in hand on all of the teams above them in the table.
