David Batch’s AFC Sudbury lost 5-1 at Witham Town on Tuesday night in their biggest defeat of the season.

The Yellows’ play-off hopes suffered another blow as Witham moved into second place in the Ryman One Division One North table with a emphatic victory.

AFC, whose previous biggest defeat this campaign was a 2-0 loss at Dereham Town on August 24, saw Witham do the double over them after their Essex rivals had beat them 2-1 at The MEL Group Stadium two weeks ago.

The Suffolk side, now six points off the play-offs in ninth place, one point worse off, were 2-0 down at the break, with three more following after the break.

They included a goal-of-the-season contender from Kris Newby, with James Baker’s penalty proving a mere consolation.

AFC Sudbury host Romford (12th) on Saturday (3pm).
