NICKY Smith has resigned from his position as AFC Sudbury manager following Wednesday night’s 4-0 defeat at Grays Athletic.
The former Colchester United player had been at the helm at King’s Marsh since May 2008 but tendered his resignation following three straight league defeats, which had seen a disappointing start to the season.
Mark Pearman, chief executive of AFC Sudbury, released a statement Thursday lunchtime saying: “AFC Sudbury regret to announce we have accepted the resignation of First Team Manager Nicky Smith.
“The club thanks Nicky for all his efforts during his time both as a player and during his tenure as manager. We wish Nicky all the very best for the future. First team assistant manager Chris Tracey will take temporary charge of first team affairs.”
Tracey who took charge of the first four games of the season with Smith away on holiday, will now take charge of the team in the build-up to their big FA Cup tie at Leiston on Saturday.
