MARSHALL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP
Hadleigh 213-3 beat
Woodbridge & OW 209-8 by seven wickets
HADLEIGH got back to winning ways with an excellent seven-wicket victory at home to Woodbridge and Old Woodbridgians on Saturday at Friars Road.
There were strong performances throughout, but Marlon Dias took the honours with a match-winning unbeaten century as Hadleigh comfortably chased down Woodbridge’s 209.
At one stage it looked as if Woodbridge were set for a daunting total, after openers Green and Hamnett put on 122, but Hadleigh captain Josh Davey and his players did not panic, and once the initial breakthrough was made by second change bowler Tom Piddington, wickets fell at regular intervals to Piddington and Tanner.
Some late run outs also contributed to what seemed a below-par score.
Hadleigh made a nervous start in reply, with Davey run out early on, but Dias was batting assuredly, and once he was joined by the in-form Piddington at 91-3, they took firm control.
They also put together a 122-run stand, but this time it was undefeated as Dias (104no) and Piddington (65no) guided their team home.
It was a morale boosting victory which keeps Hadleigh in contention in the Witham-chasing pack, and it was toasted long into the night at the club’s inaugural beer festival.
