MARSHALL TWO COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE: Lakenheath 224-9 lost to Hadleigh 237 by 13 runs

Despite missing a host of regular key players, Hadleigh’s players who made the step up from the second team rose to the occasion to help record a narrow win at Lakenheath.

They made the long trip, after last week’s match at home to Mistley was cancelled due to rain, again severely depleted.

Hadleigh lost the toss and were put in to bat, but started very well again with the dependable Marlon Dias batting beautifully alongside Nadie Abdul, who was in particularly destructive form.

There were also useful contributions from Luke Ibbs and Josh Davey as Hadleigh made 237.

Starting poorly in the field, Hadleigh were soon on the back foot.

Missing key bowlers from the team, a lot relied on Kyle Tanner and Ibbs.

They did not let the team down though and took three wickets each to help Hadleigh to a 13-run victory.

It was a much-needed victory and Hadleigh’s big players stepped up when they needed to.

With all but Danny Rock returning next week, Hadleigh will be back to nearly full strength for the visit of Frinton (1pm).

* The second team had to call upon many juniors due to first-team call-ups and lost by 21 runs at home to East Bergholt.

The returning Jordan Waugh took five wickets alongside Howe, who also took five.

* The Sunday first team were winners by 65 runs at Cavendish. Setting a total of 266-6, Hadleigh were always comfortable and eventually bowled Cavendish out for 201.

Alex Milnes was the standout player, making 77 and taking four wickets.

* The Sunday second team lost by eight runs to East Bergholt.
