Hadleigh Dolphins took a squad of four to the youth regional championships at UEA Norwich. This was a rare opportunity for talented club and county swimmers to compete long course in the 50m pool, as most pools in the UK are 25m long.
For Abi Malster, 14, this was her first regionals, and despite being nervous she performed well. Her results were: 50m free 30.72 seconds, overall 54th and 31st in age group; 200m free 2.28.44, 51st and 31st; 100m free,1.07.24, 53rd and 29th.
This
was also 14-year-old Lucy Mackenzie's first regionals. Her results were: 50m breast 39.32, 14th and 8th; 100m free in 1.07.80, 57th and 32nd; 50m free 30.52, 48th and 26th; 50m back 35.45, 23rd and 13th.
Tom Olive, 15, was competing in his second regionals. His results were: 50m free 26.62, 12th and 5th; 50m fly 30.10, 19th and 9th; 50m back 32.00, 18th and 12th; 200m free 2.12.83, 33rd and 19th; 100m free 58.48, 18th and 9th.
This was also the second regionals for 16-year-old Nathan Garrity. His results were: 100m breast 1.18.26, 21st and 13th; 50m breast 34.98, 17th and 11th; 200m breast 2.50.27, 14th and 8th.
l The Junior squad travelled to Bungay for the first of three Summer league galas. Beccles hosted the gala and other teams were Deben B, Leiston and Felixstowe.
Some of the squad were competing for the first time for the club – Molly Linge in 50m backstroke and two relays, Rachel White in 50m backstroke and the cannon relay, Oliver Fenn in 50m freestyle and two relays and Edward Seeley in 50m breaststroke and a medley relay. All earned vital points.
Notable swims came from Alanah Barton, first in 50m breast; Collette Bunce in 50m fly; Georgia Barton, second in 100 IM and 1st in 100m back; James Bark in 50m free; Fiona Manthorpe, first in 100m free and second in 100m fly.
Dolphins' relay squads performed well with two first and five seconds.
The girls finished second on the night and the boys third for an overall second place.
