Swimming: Off to a winning start

Hadleigh Dolphins started their season in great style at Diss, swimming against teams from Beccles, Aylsham, Great Yarmouth and Diss.
Fifteen personal best times were recorded and a massive 20 first places from 41 events.

The whole squad swam and competed fantastically. First places went to Ben Olive in 25m fly and 50m back, Matt D'Souza in 50m breast, Lucy Mackenzie in 50m back
and 50m breast, Jake Howard in 50m back and 50m free, Abi Malster in 100m free and 50m fly, Georgia Barton in 50m back, Shan Bendall in 50m free, Nathan Garrity in 100m breast, Adam Cottrell in 50m free, Georgia Howard in 50m free and Fiona Manthorpe in 100m back.

Most of the relay squads took first and second places, helping the Dolphins to amass a huge winning margin of 34 points over Beccles in the Diss Pool Cup.

Last year's winners Aylsham were fifth.

A number of Hadleigh Dolphins have been competing in triathlons.
Anita Malster took part in the Culford Triathlon – 300m swim, 20k bike ride, 4k run – finishing in a personal best of 1hr 19min 24sec.

Abi Malster took second place at Framlingham in her debut triathlon. She dominated the 280m swim, and was still in front after the 4,800 cycle, but was narrowly beaten in the 1,600m run.

At Clacton Laura Salisbury swam the 1,500m sea leg in 25.34min, handing over to Anita Malster for the bike leg of 40k, which she completed in 1.29.44.

Rachel Mackenzie ran the 10k leg along the promenade in 54min, for seventh place in 2.50.31 overall.

Abi and Anita Malster were in action in the Waveney Triathlon at Bungay, Suffolk.

Abi dominated the pool section 400m and managed a respectable bike ride of 20k, keeping her lead in the 3.2k run to take gold in 1.12.022. Anita finished in 1.1701.
