HADLEIGH United's interest in this season's FA Vase came to an end in windy conditions at the Millfield on Saturday.
A goal in the 87th minute by Debenham's Patrick Turley proved the winner as Hadleigh fired blanks after scoring six times at Ipswich Wanderers in the previous round.
Darius Laws and Danny George were both missing with injury while Mark Porter was
suspended.
Liam Cawtherway and Ashley Skeggs were on the bench after recent good performances. Ross Myhill made his first senior appearance of the season.
Debenham were captained by former Hadleigh skipper Chris Smith, and they had the wind at the their backs. Handball by Stuart Crawford gave the visitors an early free kick which Luke Whitwell dived to save from Stuart Jopling.
Whitwell pushed Turley's shot behind while Louis Johnson punched away Pat Fleming's free kick as Hadleigh hit back.
Jopling fired wide from a good position after 33 minutes while Chris Leys and Bradley Barber both missed the target. Fleming's shot was smothered by Johnson after 41 minutes. On the stroke of half-time Hadleigh had an escape as Leys deflected the ball against his own post.
Hadleigh began the second half strongly with wind advantage. Fleming was just too high from long range, while Craig Payne also fired over the top in what was an interesting contest for the crowd of 134.
After 64 minutes a header from Crawford was splendidly pushed clear by Johnson at full stretch. The keeper then turned Payne's effort over the bar before making a diving save from Chris Dennett as Hadleigh attacked.
At the other end Whitwell conceded a corner from Joel Watkins and then Daniel Oakes headed off the line.
Johnson comfortably dealt with Jake Kingston's shot from distance before the vital goal came at the other end as extra time loomed.
Rob Canfer split Hadleigh's defence with a through pass and the speedy Turley raced clear to curl a fine shot past Whitwell's right hand just inside the post.
Hadleigh hit back with Payne firing wide in stoppage time.
