ROVERS gained revenge for their recent Vase defeat with a comfortable preliminary round victory over their West Suffolk rivals in the Ridgeons League KO Cup.
Melford had Liam Cutts making his debut in goal, and made a good early save to turn a shot behind, but was then unable to get near the corner kick from Halls, Thomas heading home in the sixth minute.

Kent shot over when well placed before Melford produced their first real effort of the game, Perry being narrowly off-target.

An error by Raby gifted Haverhill a second goal after 23 minutes, when he allowed a crossfield ball to drop over his shoulder into the path of Halls, who finished powerfully from a narrow angle.

Melford started the second half in positive mood, with Heaton, Delves and Chisholm all putting in decent efforts as they enjoyed a lot of possession. But they were unable to break through the Rovers' defence.

The game was settled in the 83rd minute when Halls got his second from close-range, forcing home a cross from Jones.

Long Melford: Cutts; Chisholm, Raby (Grimster), French, Crissell, Arron, Delves, Brind (Fernandez), Perry (Bull), Potter, Heaton. Sub (not used): Hounsell.
