MATT Paisley was in goal for Hadleigh United for the 3-1 win over Swaffham Town on Saturday, back in action at the Millfield after a gap of seven years.
Paisley took over the jersey from Luke Whitwell, who had played the previous four-and-a-half matches with a cracked shin bone.
Whitwell suffered the injury midway through the Ridgeons League Cup game against Stanway on October 21 when he raced out
of his area to clear and collided with an opponent and, following an X-ray last week, has been ruled out for four to six weeks.
Whitwell, 25, only went to hospital after the 4-1 defeat at Gorleston on November 8.
"My leg ached so much on the Sunday that I decided to go for an X-ray," he said.
In the previous three matches Whitwell had kept clean sheets. "But every time I took a knock it was painful, and it made me wince every time I took a kick," he said.
Whitwell, a self-employed heating engineer, can drive and walk without too many problems, and was at the Millfield on Saturday to watch the win.
Manager Steve Jay contacted Paisley, who has played mainly in the SIL since leaving Hadleigh and, apart from conceding a penalty, the police officer was rarely seriously tested by bottom-of-the-table Swaffham.
There have been a number of backroom changes at Hadleigh, with the club looking for a new chairman to take over from John Whitwell, who has stepped down for business reasons.
With the last phase of the new clubhouse at Hadleigh nearing completion, Whitwell felt obliged to stand down as he is unable to devote the time he feels necessary to carry out the duties of chairman.
He took over as chairman in June last year.
Writing in the programme on Saturday, he said: "My personal and business position at this time gives me so little time to give to the club."
John Powell has stepped down as assistant manager for business reasons, but will continue to be involved with the club.
Jay has appointed Kevin Sharman as his new assistant, with Gary Bevis taking over the coaching role recently vacated by Nick Wilding.
