Rugby: RFU honours work of volunteers

SEVENTEEN people were honoured at Sudbury Rugby Club on Friday with the presentation of RFU Volunteer Recognition certificates. The awards were presented by RFU council member-elect Andrew Sarek.
Wendy Pearce received a VIP scarf as well as a certificate, VIP ties and a certificate went to Andy Mayers and Ray Collins, and 14 other volunteers received certificates.

Wendy Pearce, a former club chairman, as well as being ladies captain, has served as membership secretary, and social secretary, as well as coaching and managing a youth side.

Andy Mayers, also a former chairman, chairs the new build committee which is overseeing the move to a new ground. He has rebuilt the two pitches at Moorsfield, and improved bar margins at the club.

Current chairman Ray Collins has served as treasurers, on the management committee, and is secretary of the new build committee.

Certificates for youth and mini coaching and organising went to: Francis Kenealy, Chris Ellis, Eddie Brown, Richard Steele, Giles Clark, Sally Clark, Mike Murray and Colin Pinnegar.

Certificates also went to: Dan Connell, club secretary who also marks out the pitches; Richard Lorking, sponsorship co-ordinator; Brian Lorking, club registrar, past chairman and organiser of Sportsmen's evenings; Paul Williams, sponsorship and beer festival management; Mike Mather, for 24/7 services for maintenance and emegency repairs; Maxine Birmingham, running the club shop.
