A second place, a sixth, and two fastest laps made it a successful Volkswagen Racing Cup weekend for Jamie Perry at Silverstone, lifting him to second place in the championship with one meeting left.
Castle Hedingham-based Perry is 66 points behind championship leader Joe Fulbrook, with 94 points at stake at Donington on October 12, but he is not conceding defeat yet.
"The stage is set for a thrilling finale at Donington," he said, "and both u
s us have everything to play for."
Fulbrook finished ahead of Force Ten team driver Perry in both races at Silverstone, but as the season has progressed, Perry's consistent results have lifted him to second place in the championship, a position which seemed out of reach at the beginning of the season following all the troubles with his new Keith Garages-backed Golf GTi.
Race one at Silverstone was full of action, with the top six drivers all pushing hard for the win and giving the spectators a great race to watch.
In a very competitive race Perry finished a creditable sixth – which earned him pole position in the second race as the top six places are reversed on the grid.
Pole position played nicely into his hands as it gave him the confidence to play his Joker card – the last of the championship top four to do so.
He raced into an early lead, but Fulbrook had no intention of letting Perry run away with things and made his first bid for the lead at Priory on the fourth lap.
He was rebuffed on that occasion but managed to make the manoeuvre stick next time around.
Places changed again when Steve Chaplin in the Herbie-liveried Beetle nipped through to take the lead at Brooklands on lap six.
He held on for four laps until making an error which allowed Fulbrook to regain the advantage. With two laps to go Perry retook second place.
